Drawing Class

- the foundation of all good art

This class is an all-levels class. Whether you are already a proficient artist or brand-new to art, you will discover new ways of approaching the art of drawing. Brant offers drawing as a way to evolve beyond object creation. In this class, you learn to transcend your inner critique or editor and allow your natural creative voice to arise. Over his decades of teaching, Brant has developed a unique range of art exercises, that circumvent the editor.

“Every time, I take Brant’s Drawing Class, I realize something new about myself. It is as though, he helps give voice to a quieter part of myself that is most often drowned out by my ego and my anxieties.” - Maria Toso, class participant.

The Art 4 Dementia Technique

- giving people language where there are no words:

Brant Kingman, the artist and founder of Art 4 Dementia, has spent over 3 years engaged in art endeavors with dementia and mentally challenged patients in one-on-one, and group settings. Kingman conducts trainings and workshops for dementia sufferers, their caregivers, and family. These sessions effectively train the caregivers and family of dementia sufferers to use the Art 4 Dementia Technique to engage and be present with anyone suffering from Dementia at any stage.

These highly accessible workshops provide tools and techniques that can easily be acquired by anyone. No prior experience with art is necessary in order to learn the Art 4 Dementia technique.

Participants report feeling a significant ease of the stress and mental anxiety that is so often experienced by both the caretakers of people with dementia and the dementia sufferers themselves.  The Art 4 Dementia Technique provides a new way to communicate with people who are losing the traditional ways of communicating — which is often highly predicated on remembering and planning.

The Art 4 Dementia Technique teaches anyone to become fully present in the Moment and creates a healing space of ease and grace. Anyone can learn the Art 4 Dementia Technique.

A typical Art 4 Dementia Training will entail some or all of the following elements:

  1. Stay in Touch. This effort helps dementia sufferers keep in contact with loved ones by painting and drawing unique post cards with simple messages.

  2. Copying the Masters. The Artist discovered that copying masterpieces from art books helps people with compromised cognitive abilities quiet their minds by focusing on hand-eye coordination.

  3. Seasonal Decor. We will draw, paint and cut out seasonal decor to match the changing weather and special days.

  4. Masks. Masks create reactions of surprise and laughter. We will create our own masks just for the fun of it.

  5. Favorite Furry and Feathered Friends. We will make images of our favorite pets to remind them of how much we love and miss them.

  6. Happy Colors. Each of us has colors that remind us of moods. We will concentrate on painting pictures with our own special happy colors.

  7. Performing Together. We may don costumes and play simple instruments to create a sense of community enjoyment.

Art 4 Dementia Technique Instructor Certification

Art 4 Dementia also offers a complete certification program for anyone who wishes to be well equipped to work either professionally or personally with dementia patients using the Art 4 Dementia Technique.

Deep yogic and artistic practices to clear out anxiety and strengthen the voice of your Spirit

Date: Saturday October 7, 2017

Time: 2:00PM-5:30PM

Prerequisites: none

Location: Kingman Studios, 225 Thomas Avenue N. in Minneapolis

Tension in the body is often caused by unconscious fear that has taken root; when we access and release the tension, we make room for new experiences to enter our lives. This workshop will help you release the burden of fear and tension and deepen the inherent connection to the authentic Spirit voice that we all carry within.

Through therapeutic soma yogic practices, breath work and guided meditation, you will achieve a deep sense of peace in your physical body and a quiet mind. From this place of inner calm, you will be guided through artistic exercises that will reveal in more details what your Spirit is up to, where you may feel stuck and how to move forward.

The artistic process in this workshop is not about producing an object; it's about creating a tool that enables you to remove the debris of previous trauma and the filings of your daily grind that obscure the intelligent emanations of your own Spirit. Brant Kingman will show you art tricks he's developed to help you recognize what your Spirit knows. You will be amazed at how your Spirit speaks to you once you clear the space to hear it.

"We are all visionaries but many of us have lost touch with this aspect of ourselves. We get stuck on autopilot as we rush through life. The clear voice of our Spirit cannot rise above the chatter of the intellect. So it's imperative that we learn to turn off the inner dialogue and focus our intent.  Once we accomplish this, we can use art as a simple tool to refine our state of being," explains co-teacher, Brant Kingman.

This workshop is a pause, a deep breath, a long sigh and an invitation for your Spirit, your authentic voice, to come through and speak to you, reveal overlooked information, and gently (re)direct your course. In order to access the voice of truth within, we have to learn to slow ourselves way down and shut off the busy mind.

The practices taught in this workshop will take you to the next level whether you have never done yoga before or if you are a professional yoga teacher -- and anything in between. It's for you if you are a professional artist and it's for you, if you haven't touched a crayon since you were 8 years old.

This class is taught as a collaboration between Yoga and Meditation Teacher, Maria Toso and Artist, Brant Kingman.
